Ladies World Championships to return to Melbourne in 2027
Australian Women's Open debuts on new Sydney court
The next Ladies Real Tennis World Championship will take place in March of 2027 at the Royal Melbourne Tennis Club, following an announcement by the Australian Real Tennis Association on Tuesday.
The event willstart on Easter Saturday, running from 27 March through to 3 April, with both singles and doubles champions to be crowned. Claire Fahey is expected to attend to defend her crown on the court she won her very first title back in 2011. Seeking her ninth title in both events, it will be the first time she will contest on a court on which she has previously.
It will be the fourth time that the Royal Melbourne Tennis Club will host the event, having held the inaugural edition in 1985, which was won by Australian Judith Clarke against Lesley Ronaldson. Melbourne will have hosted the event more times than any other club, with Newport having held three editions.
Additionally, for the second time in four years the women’s Australian Open will move from its usual January timeslot, to follow on from 7 to 10 April at the Sydney Real Tennis Club, which will be celebrating its second year of opening. It will be Sydney’s first time hosting the event.
In addition to the elite events, the Australian Real Tennis Association will put on a plethora of ancillary events, including handicap women’s and mixed doubles, women’s clinics and graded women’s singles and doubles and a main draw plate competition to encourage as full of an attendance as possible.
Before then, the next opportunity to see the top women in action will be at the Bathurst Cup in Paris in May, with a team from Great Britain taking on a team from the Rest of the World.
